Genese Home Appliance Company, a Minnesota-based maker of humidifiers, has teamed up with Home Depot to bring its company-owned headquarters to an apartment building in Brooklyn.
The company, based in Minneapolis, is looking to open a new facility in the Bronx as part of a larger expansion of its footprint, the company announced Wednesday.
“This is our first foray into Brooklyn and we are very excited to be partnering with one of the most prominent and iconic names in New York City, Home Depot,” said Genesese CEO John Waggoner.
New Jersey-based Genesie recently acquired a number of smaller retailers including Bed Bath & Beyond and GNC.
Genesy said it plans to open an office in the Midtown neighborhood of Manhattan’s Chelsea neighborhood and a new, larger building in the Park Slope neighborhood.
More than a decade ago, Genesia was the company that brought the Humidifier to the masses, and it has seen its humidifier market skyrocket.
It launched its first humidifier in 2010, and now sells about 1.5 million units each year, according to the company.
Genesia said it’s in the process of acquiring about 100 smaller stores, but it will not disclose the location.
In February, Genysa announced plans to close down its retail stores in Canada and South Africa.
It said it will invest in building new facilities in the United States.
About 500,000 Humidifiers are sold each year in the U.S., according to a report by The Nielsen Company.
